Great Neck Middle School | Virginia Beach, Virginia

As one of the most current and sustainable middle schools in Virginia Beach, Great Neck Middle School is projected to receive a LEED Gold certification from USGBC. As the project’s landscape architect, WPL lead the site design from concept through implementation. Issues such as optimized vehicular and pedestrian circulation, building location, and athletic field positioning were some of the challenges negotiated for this unique project. As a part of Great Neck’s sustainability program, the project included a specific orientation for the 3-story classroom wing, a permeable paver parking lot, and an intensive green roof system. Great Neck Middle School is a solid example of the trend in next generation school design.
